Improving Symptoms with Cryotherapy for
Back Pain

The advantages of using cryotherapy include:

  • A drop in skin temperature.
  • The nerve activity and pain are reduced.
  • It relieves inflammation and pain.

Cryotherapy can reduce oedema, which is connected to pain and discomfort. Additionally, it may lower pain sensitivity. When you are trying to manage pain and swelling, especially around a joint or tendon, cryotherapy is extremely effective.

Cryotherapy to manage your back pain

Chronic back pain caused by degenerative spine disease or other back disorders can drastically lower a person’s quality of life and interfere with daily, physical, and occupational activities. Acute or chronic back pain is one of the most prevalent health issues in industrialised nations, where it is expected that 80% of people will experience it at least once in their lifetime. After the common cold, lower back pain is the most prevalent medical problem in people and the second most frequent reason for doctor referrals.

Approximately 50% of people over the age of 55 and 100% of people over the age of 65 are known to experience degenerative spine abnormalities. These degenerative alterations may result in joint discomfort and restricted movement.

Symptoms can include:

  • Pain that may be niggling or acute and incapacitating.
  • Pain that worsens after prolonged durations of sitting.
  • Tasks requiring bending, lifting, or twisting may cause more pain.
  • Irritation and tingling.
  • Walking and staying active can reduce pain.
  • Legs, buttocks, and the low back may all be painful.
  • Neck discomfort that might spread to the hands and arms.
  • When you frequently change positions or when you’re lying down, the pain subsides.

Cryotherapy reduces Inflammation

According to recent studies, cryotherapy can be an effective way to alleviate back pain and help people regain the quality of life they once had. Patients undergoing whole-body cryotherapy are exposed to air that is extremely cold (between -85°C and -140°C). According to reports, this exposure to freezing temperatures raises the activation threshold for sensory nerve endings and reduces the pace at which peripheral nerves conduct electricity. As a result, the amount of negative information that is sent from the conducting nerve fibres to the spinal cord is reduced. This may result in decreased spinal olfactory nerve cell activity and hence decreased discomfort. Cryotherapy also has an analgesic effect that causes pain to diminish.

Cryotherapy For Nerve Pain

Peripheral neuropathy is a daily problem for many back pain sufferers. Due to injured and inflamed nerve endings, this illness causes numbness, tingling, and pain in the extremities.

Using ice on these already sensitive areas can make the pain and discomfort even worse. Cryotherapy for back pain can help alleviate some of this discomfort without the pain of icing.
